About Us

About the gang at Sugar High Cakes

Sugar High Cakes was established in 2015. The founders, Paul and Dee Farrance, had just sold their Dubai business and relocated to the UK to continue pursuing their passion.

Dee: Hi there! I'm also known as Duaa, which is my real name, although my friends call me Dee. I have a degree in Fine Arts from the American University in Dubai (which partly explains my American accent, which you'll notice when you speak to me!). I co-founded Sugar High Cakes with my husband, Paul, after returning to the UK from Dubai. This is our second cake business, the first being "Bean Machine Coffee and Bakery" in Dubai. Bean Machine was all about artisan, specialty coffee, and home-style baked desserts. It was also where I started cake decorating as a profession. We were inspired by Magnolia Bakery in New York, which is also the inspiration behind the British equivalent Hummingbird bakery. Many of our dessert cakes resembled their cakes in their size, height, and buttercream finish. Although, in all honesty, the whole world is now adopting the trend of taller, rustic looking cakes!

I love art, oil-painting, creative writing, and above all, I'm horse-obsessed. I have two daughters who are the center of my universe, and who bake alongside me on weekends. Paul is our numbers guy. He does the accounting for us, and keeps us from financial astray!

Sugar High Cakes is based in Worthing, West Sussex.
